What is it?
A 3 day immersive course on everything related to poi. The 3 day intensive will cover all beginner to advanced concepts related to poi spinning and primarily will revolve around using poi as a stage prop for performances. The course has been constructed in a way that by the end of the course all students will be given enough material to start on enhancing their performance journey with poi.
What is the discipline and who is it for?
Poi is originally a tool from the Maori tribe of New Zealand. Poi was used, many years ago, by the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand to increase their flexibility and strength in their hands and arms as well as improving coordination. In today’s world it is primarily known as a performance prop in the flow arts and circus world. It is also used as a health and wellness tool in old age homes and schools in several parts of the world to improve coordination and flexibility.
The 3 day Poi intensive is designed for individuals of all levels who want to learn poi spinning as a skill and use it as a vocation. We will be discussing the applications of poi in the performance as well as the wellness industry
Who is the instructors?
This course has been designed by Javed (a.k.a Xangô) and will primarily be taught by him. Laura will also be teaching 2 classes of flow movement each day prior to the poi performance classes.
How many students per class?
This intensive is limited to 11 students
What is included in the course fee?
The course fee includes access to instructors, use of equipment and circus space during classes and open jams.
What is not included?
Travel arrangements, breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation. However, participants may opt for a BnB / meal inclusive plan for an additional price. Please visit this page for instructions and information.
